Milt Kahl

Who is Milt Kahl?

He was animator for the Disney Studios and one of Disney's 9 Old Men.
Milt Kahl was a brilliant animator who amazed everyone with his exceptional draftsmanship, genius refinements in character design, and extraordinary technique as an animator. He drew things almost no one else could draw in such a beautiful way and he would use poses and graceful movements that made the character believable and appealing. He once said "I'm perfect for this medium. I have no limitations. I can do anything.", and he proved that with his incredible drawings and characters throughout his career. What really separates him as well is the intense, intellectual thinking put behind the drawings. Because of his abilities as a draftsman Kahl's main specialty was in animating straight human characters such as Pinocchio, Alice, Pete Pan, Wendy, Prince Phillip, Roger and Anita from 101 Dalmatians, Merlin and many more.

For me, Milt Kahl is one of my inspirations and source of motivation to become better at character design. His work has made me realize the importance of making poses that read and show character and refinement. He believed in working your hardest, doing the highest quality work possible and concentrating extensively, all things that I believe are important and essential. Kahl always did his very best and gave everything he had in his work, which is what I want to do in animation.
